Crafty Project: Little Fairy Peg Dolls

Today is my newly-turned-five year old daughter Gracie's birthday, and for a present, I made her (read: slaved over) some little fairy peg dolls and a cupcake party play set... and I thought I'd share my photos for all the crafty mamas out there.

I started with these stinkin' adorable peg dolls with hand cut butterfly wings, which I bought from Popalicioustoo on Etsy (click here to visit the shop).

Then I went to the craft store and bought little wooden plates and bowls, circles and spools, and tiny little wood 'mushroom buttons' to make cupcakes and tables.

With a little bit of paint, a little bit of wood glue, a whole lot of glitter (because you can't go wrong with glitter) and about a million back-breaking hours painting, the little wooden pegs and wings were turned into a whole fairy play set.

Unfortunately you can't see from the photos, but I used a sparkly glaze to coat everything when they were done, and added an extra layer of fine clear sparkle glitter... every inch of everything sparkles.

And a little wooden treasure box to store all the tiniest play toys.

The gift was a hit, Gracie was thrilled, and now I must be off, because our birthday celebration day isn't over yet, and there is much candy to make, and cupcakes to bake, and fairy dolls to play with!

xoxo,

  6. These are adorable and what fun... do you think they are easy enough to paint, after assembly to be a part of little girls birthday party. That would be cute to have a batch like yours but also let little girls decorate theirs.

  7. Polwig, I would depend on the age. Younger girls might not have the fine motor skills required for the pieces (the dolls are only 2 inches tall). But I'm sure older girls (I'm thinking 7-10+) would LOVE a project like that! I know I would have.

  9. So precious - I know some little girls who would enjoy something like this. May I ask, how were the wings adhered to the bodies (pegs) - glue, glue gun, staples ...?? Thanks for sharing.

  11. I love these. I found your post through Muffin Tin Mom. I am adding this idea to my "must make for Christmas gift" list for my daughter. She will love them.
I especially love the idea of decorating a box to hold everything!

  12. The wings are adhered using wood glue, which I attached after painting, but before sealing. I just used a little sandpaper to remove the paint where I added the glue, and then let them dry on their backs for several hours before sealing with a glittery pain sealer (found in the same section as the craft paints)
