Stand Back, We've Got Cooties
Consider yourself warned! Yep, that's right, our house is riddled with cooties...some nasty sore throat followed by a complete booger fest virus and this time no one, save our Golden Retriever, Sissy, escaped unscathed. Lil Buddy was the most fortunate...he only got the runny nose part of it. SweetPea got the ugly end of it, complete with a 104 fever and throwing up. The Man had the pleasure of coming down with it while he was out of town on business and is still battling with closed up sinuses and snot galore. As for me, I got smacked with it just after The Man did...and mine is all about the sore throat. No, I take it back...sore throat isn't even the half of it. It's more like my tonsils are so swollen they are practically shaking hands and just drinking cold water feels like I'm swallowing tacks. Ah, the joys of passing germs.
It comes with the territory, though. Let's face it, kids aren't the most hygienic people by nature and put them in a group setting and we're talking about illness just waiting to happen. We've been fortunate...we've been pretty healthy over the past year. Not surprising when you consider neither kid has been in a group environment other than an occasional trip to the zoo, the mall play area or Chuck E Cheese. Wouldn't you know, less than three weeks into part time school and we get our first "ick". What really stinks is regardless of whether one or both kids catch these bugs...I ALWAYS get it too. Daddy is lucky, more often than not, he manages to dodge the bullet...well except for this time. But not me. I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that I'm the one who spends the most time with both kids, but seriously...it sucks! Even when SweetPea was in full time daycare and I was working, I always seemed to be the one catching whatever she brought home from school. To make matters worse, mommies don't get sick days. That's right, as a stay at home mom, when I get sick, I just have to suck it up and carry on, no matter how sick I feel. I lucked out yesterday, though. The Man stayed home sick from work and the kids had school in the morning, so I was able to drop them off and come home and nap a little. While Lil Buddy was napping in the afternoon, The Man was nice enough to occupy SweetPea and let me sleep a little more. I'm not exactly feeling 100% today, but at least I'm a little more rested.
People have always told me that having the kids exposed to these illnesses at a young age will help them be more immune to them once they hit grade school. I sure hope that theory is true...AND I hope somewhere along the way I build up a better immunity or else I'm going to have to buy myself a biohazard suit...or maybe a big plastic bubble!

lol Good luck with the cootie infestation! :P
ReplyDeleteI always get whatever cold is circulating our house, worse than anyone else. The last germ-fest hit my kids for two days and I got it for three weeks. It was horrible.
ReplyDeleteI think they're lying about being immune later because we're still getting sick. :oP
Oh no! It only gets worse when your kiddos are in school and bringing home other peoples germs. I think once you have a baby you should automatically get stock in Lysol :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you guys are feeling better!
hope you all feel better soon!! I stock up on clorox wipes and we all take Cold-calm homeopathic tablets from whole foods at the first sign and its gone within a day or so
ReplyDeleteOh, I've been there. I had strep throat this past spring. All I wanted was to curl up in a ball and sleep, but I had three little faces looking at me wondering what was for dinner. And my better half was out if town. Just thinking about it gives me the chills. I'm glad you are on the other side of it. STAY WELL!
